KENT – It may be the middle of summer, but town officials are preparing for back to school and assuring families that support is available for those families that require it and qualify.

Social Services Director Samantha Hasenflue is seeking help from Kent residents to spread the word and share information with Kent residents who need assistance with school supplies.

Anyone seeking to access these resources, is asked to complete the online application form. Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31 and those who apply will receive an email regarding their eligibility no later than Friday, Aug. 9.

Applying for supplies is not a guarantee that one’s child will be accepted for the program. It is available to students in grades kindergarten through 12, who are Kent residents and whose families need assistance covering the expenses of children returning to school. Proof of household income or SNAP/food stamp benefit is required. Successful applicants must have a documented need for assistance and/or have accessed other need-based programs within the last 12 months. All applicants’ identity, address, and contact information will remain confidential.

Resident Trooper Vicki Donohoe and State Police Troop L are collecting supplies for the town’s Back-to-School event, while the Social Services team is actively seeking cash donations to secure clothing gift cards for those in need.

All donations can be dropped off at the Social Services Office on the second floor of Town Hall. Anyone who prefers to donate online, can do so here.

For additional information or questions, call 860-927-1586 or email socialservices@townofkentct.org.
